A good writer helps explain your offer, answer customer questions and publish content you can stand behind. Selecting only by a per-word price or ranking promise is insufficient. Quality also depends on the brief, the information supplied and the review before publication.
This guide helps you prepare an assignment, compare candidates and assess the result. It applies to service pages, articles, product descriptions and newsletters in English and French.
1. Define what the reader should understand or do
Start with the need: understanding a service, comparing options, preparing for an appointment or using a product. Then decide the appropriate page and next action: further reading, an enquiry or a purchase.
“Write 1,000 words about our business” gives little direction. “Help a property owner understand our annual maintenance service and prepare an enquiry” supports better decisions about answers, examples and limitations.
Before commissioning a new page, check whether an existing one should be improved. Our competitor topic research method can help define the need without copying other websites.
2. Choose the kind of support you need
| Arrangement | May suit | Clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Independent writer | Direct collaboration and growing business knowledge | Availability, expertise and revision process |
| Platform | Orders organised through its workflow | Writer assignment, editing and point of contact |
| Agency or editorial team | Coordinating several skills | Strategy, writing, approval and publishing scope |
| Translation and adaptation | Another language or market | Local research, adaptation and specialist review |
No category guarantees every delivery. Ask for a relevant example and review the working process rather than relying on an advertised writer count.
3. Revisit referenced platforms and check current terms
The following links retain this guide’s service references, including commercial links. Check current offers and terms before ordering; no price or outcome is guaranteed here.
- HireWriters / HireWriter: the public HireWriters.com website checked on 20 October 2026 redirects to Toptal Writers. Confirm the current arrangement instead of relying on the old ordering model.
- TextMaster: specify whether you need translation, adaptation or original writing and ask for the corresponding scope.
- Greatcontent: its international website now redirects to Eurocom content explaining Greatcontent’s integration. Check the availability of the former route and its terms.
- Textbroker: examine production and revision arrangements for your languages and subjects.
- Redactiweb and Eredacteur remain referenced services: verify their current availability before choosing.
You can also find an independent writer through channels such as LinkedIn. The channel does not replace checking skills. The public HireWriters redirect and current Greatcontent information explain changes; they do not replace the retained commercial destinations above.
4. Provide a usable brief
Include the audience, main question, purpose, target page and existing material. Supply facts only your business can provide: the actual service process, limitations, conditions, examples, authorised images and a person who can validate details.
Page: [existing or new]. Reader: [profile]. Question: [need]. Expected answer: [what they can do or decide]. Facts to use: [approved documents]. Required points: [list]. Unconfirmed or prohibited claims: [list]. Tone and language: [instructions]. Next step: [action]. Specialist approval: [person].
Specify internal links, reference sources and material to retain. For a rewrite, supply the original text and URL plus affiliate links. Do not ask writers to automatically replace your /out/ routes with direct destinations.
5. Set length according to the need
A length range can help organise work, but should not require repetition to reach a threshold. Google does not specify a preferred word count that guarantees rankings. Google’s helpful content guidance.
Specify essential answers, necessary examples and distinctive information instead. An article may explain a method; a service page primarily needs to make the offer and its conditions understandable.
6. Commission a representative first delivery
Before a large batch, agree on a paid, limited trial with the quality expectations of future work. Use a representative subject rather than an artificially simple task.
Clarify price, scope, research, deadlines, revisions, delivery format and permitted use of text and visuals. If WordPress integration is included, define access, draft status and approval before publication.
Agree on any AI use, confidentiality and required checks. Responsibility for verifying facts does not disappear because a tool helped produce the draft.
7. Review against concrete criteria
| Criterion | Review question |
|---|---|
| Accuracy | Are prices, conditions, dates and specifications verified? |
| Usefulness | Does the reader get the promised answer and a clear next step? |
| Originality | Does it use your information and authorised examples? |
| Structure | Do headings, paragraphs and tables support reading? |
| Links | Are destinations, sources and affiliate routes correct? |
| Claims | Does it avoid invented outcomes and impossible guarantees? |
| Language | Does vocabulary suit the audience and market? |
Check sources for figures and sensitive statements. “Our customers save 40%” requires evidence specific to your business; it must not be invented to make the page persuasive.
An analysis tool’s score does not replace review. Have technical passages checked by someone who genuinely knows the service.
8. Give precise feedback
Instead of “make it more persuasive”, identify the passage and problem: “The quote is not instant; explain that we reply after reviewing the requirements.” Separate factual correction, missing information and tone preferences.
Consolidate feedback in one version and assign a decision maker to avoid contradictory instructions. Keep approved examples as references for future work.
9. Prepare English and French as independent pages
Validate service names, units, local references and links in each language. A page for another market may need a different example and audience-specific vocabulary research.
Keep a reference version and change log. When a commercial condition changes in French, check the English version too. Review each page independently, including its title and calls to action.
10. Verify publishing and monitor the work
In WordPress, check the main title, subheadings, excerpt, tables, images and alternative text. Review phone display and open the links. A good delivered document does not automatically mean a good published page.
Monitor customer feedback, enquiries and page performance according to the goal. Do not automatically blame the writer for a lack of immediate progress. Content, the offer, navigation and context can all contribute.
Begin with a brief and a pilot page. For a newsletter, define the promise and recipients; for a page already receiving traffic, heatmaps can help investigate its journey. To discuss coordinating the work, describe your needs to iMasterWeb.
